Sunday Check In!

February 8, 2015

Hey guys!

There’s a lot on my mind and a lot I want to share before I post my next crockpot recipe tomorrow morning, so here we go!Β Comment below if you feel so inclined πŸ™‚

1. TODAY is Brooke’s 6th birthday! I was watching her so carefully today because she once, six years ago, was by baby. My only baby. And now, she’s turning into a beautiful young girl. My heart explodes {happily….and occasionally angrily} when that girl does anything. I’m so LUCKY that I got a good one. Sometimes she’s tough to wrangle and sometimes she’s just so emotional she “just might literally DIE” but she is and will always be by sweet, tender, shy, friendly, sassy, curious, funny, wonderful girl.

2. This weekend is President’s Day weekend which means a long weekend which means…….drumroll please…….I’m going to St.Louis to meet my husband for a *leetle* vacation amongst all that training he’s doing. I’M.SO.EXCITED. Tell me everything I should do and everywhere I should go. Restaurant recommendations are always welcome too πŸ™‚

Old Spaghetti Factory at Laclede’s Landing is my all time favorite restaurant. It’s what I request for all my big birthdays πŸ™‚

You described her perfectly!! How’d you do that?
Just realized Presidents’ Weekend included Valentines Day. Perfect time for a trip.

You’re coming to STL on perhaps one of the best/worst weekends of the year…Mardi Gras is such a big deal here, so I’d stay away from the area south of downtown (the Soulard neighborhood) if you’re not looking to get trashed while wearing a bunch of beads πŸ™‚

But otherwise enjoy your time in our city! I love it here so much, so I hope you have a fabulous time!

So happy that you are going to be in STL! We love our city! Not sure what part of town you will be staying in, but just want to warn you that most of the restaurants fill up very quickly on the 14th. Many also have a more expensive, pre-fix menu, and not their regular menu on Valentine’s Day. It can be VERY crowded. If you want to go to a nice place, be sure to call and make reservations!
We also have a fabulous Zoo, Art Museum, Science Center, and of course, The Arch. Lots to do while you are here! Have a great time!

Besides the above mentioned places to visit I would recommend the Anheuser Busch Brewery tour (be sure to check out Gus’s pretzel’s if you make it to the tour), a MUST visit to STL should include a trip to Ted Drews frozen custard which will reopen this week for the year. Great food can be found on the “Hill” (not far from Ted Drewes) and you menu should definitely include some toasted ravioli. There are also some great BBQ places (Sugar Fire, Bogart’s, Smoking Barrels). Enjoy your visit!

I’m agreeing with a prior comment about staying away from Soulard and parts of Downtown on Saturday due to Mardi Gras, unless of course, you’d like to join in on the festivities! I’d stay away from The Landing at night as it will get crowded and a little shady as the Mardi Gras crew heads that way. Off the top of my head, restaurants or food to look into would be anything on The Hill (Italian), Toasted Ravioli, Imo’s Pizza (St. Louis-style), Bailey’s Range (Burgers), Remy’s Kitchen & Wine Bar, Element, Mission Taco Joint. Outside of food, the A-B Brewery tour is fun and there is a Biergarten to check out after. You could also do a tour of Schlafley Bottleworks if mainstream A-B products aren’t your thing. If the weather is nice, the zoo is free admission! The City Museum is fun. I tell people to skip the arch, but it’s still a must do for some STL first-timers. I know you Portlanders love VooDoo Donuts, but Strange Donuts is a strong rival! The one in Maplewood is surrounded by little shops and restaurants that won’t be overrun with the Mardi Gras crowd. Have fun!!

YAY STL!!! Oh my goodness enjoy! I second Ted Drewes–a must try! You should also stop in at Donut Drive In right down the street for the absolute best apple fritter in the world (Strange Donuts is good, but I love the classics!). I’m not sure where you’re staying but there are awesome places in Clayton…highly recommend Half & Half for breakfast or lunch and then Pastaria for an amazing Italian dinner (get the gelato!). We love Pappy’s best when it comes to BBQ. The Chocolate Bar has fantastic desserts, and I highly recommend both Jilly’s Ice Cream (also a cupcake bar!) and Ices Plain and Fancy. Send me an email if you have any questions πŸ™‚
