Our sweetie pie, Blake, is NINE and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it.
For Blake’s birthday, I took him and 10 of his friends to a trampoline park and turns out it was way more fun than I thought! I truly was expecting the worst (New York has ruined me and I hate loud places and crowds) but it was so much more fun than expected. I brought lots of chips, soda and a lovely chocolate Costco cake Blake picked out himself. I did want to make the cake myself, but I just ran out of time. After the party, we came home for our family pizza night and he opened his gifts from us. He got a racing car lego set and a brand new bike. His other bike got stolen a few months ago (before Gordon installed all.the.cameras around our property) so he has just been using his smaller bike. But now he has a really sharp black and orange brand new bike to ride around. He asked for a bunch of video games, but with summer right around the corner, we thought a bike made more sense. He was so surprised but he ended up loving it!
A few more things about Blake I want to remember at 9:
He is a tenderhearted, soccer-loving, obedient child who is so delightful to be with. One on one I could be with him for DAYS, but when he’s together with a younger sibling, he gets frustrated easily.

Both his younger brothers look up to him and want to emulate him in every way. He views this as “copying” and thinks its so annoying but slowly we are working through it.
Some friends in the neighborhood usually come by 2-3 times a week to play and they go from soccer to basketball to biking to jumping on the trampoline rain or shine. They are such good buddies and it’s the sweetest thing to see.
He is on a great soccer team this year and is gaining more confidence to play offense instead of his usual defense he just loves. He has scored 3 goals this season!

When we ask him to do something, he is quick to listen. He has realized it is easier to just get it done quickly than try to get out of it. Chores, playing with his brothers, helping in one way or another, he is quick to listen. It’s one of the best things about him.
He loves to read. As long as he has a good book to read, he is happy to do it. He loves the Dog Man books
Still as smart as ever. His grades are sky high and his teacher loves having him in class. He plays soccer at recess and is slowly starting to branch out and try new things (like school lunch…haha!)
He hates sauces of any kind. Pasta sauce. Salad Dressing. Ketchup. Hates it all. He’ll eat the plain pasta separately and choke down a few bites of spaghetti sauce. Or eat veggies dry without dressing or dip. Or have a plain cheeseburger with no ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise.

We have finally convinced him that showers are where its at and he has given up all baths. And, the best part is he is completely competent. He knows how to do everything on his own. So, that’s 50% of our kids who are independent. Praise.
Is getting braces at the end of the month! I can’t even believe it.
We just love having our Blakey Cakey in our family. His demeanor, his laughter and his willing heart to help his mama are just some of our favorite things about Blake.
