Over this past weekend, I had a great time with some girlfriends celebrating my friend’s 40th birthday at Disneyland! I tell ya, if you are going to celebrate turning 40, Disney is the way to do it. We left Thursday afternoon and were in the park for Friday and Saturday. We walked nearly 40,000 steps the whole weekend! I left more tired than I arrived with even more blisters, but man oh man was it fun!

We are a Disney-loving family. Check out our previous posts here:

We ended up staying in two adjoining rooms at the Westin Resort and it was gorgeous! Clean and nearly brand new hotel. We had groceries delivered the first night we were there and it was great. Also, the lobby smelled amazing. It’s a bit of a walk to the park which can seem exhausting at the end of a long day at the park, but it’s better than having to take a bus or shuttle.

While I wish Disney would have stuck with their Max Pass system, we certainly paid extra for Genie+ which is the service that lets you skip the line to ride the most popular rides at Disneyland and California Adventure. It allowed us to ride all the rides we wanted to and then some. I used the Disneyland app and loaded everyone’s ticket onto my account which allowed all of us to select our ride selections together via Genie+. It was extremely helpful to have. I just wish you could use it for the same ride twice. We actually were able to buy our Disneyland tickets with Genie+ through and get 5% off using our Red cards which we found to be the cheapest option. Maybe there are cheaper ones out there, but this was the easiest and cheapest way we made it work.

I love a good roller coaster and Disneyland has some of my favorites. The Incredicoaster is my hands down favorite. But I will never turn down Space Mountain, Soarin or Radiator Springs Racers. I love them all.

I have a bit of a love hate with the Tower or Terror, now known as Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t remember it dropping as frequently as it did? It was a combination of me being scared for my life and then laughing hysterically. Would I do it again? Probably only if I was able to go with those same people.

The new Star Wars rides Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Tours were both pretty good. We rode Millenium Falcon twice and it was probably my favorite between the two. If you love Star Wars, though, I’d say you might like Star Tours much better.

Besides all the rides, there was some food I wanted to try at each park. While I was overall impressed with the food I bought, there were some obvious stand-outs. The Raspberry macaron and the churro toffee were both fabulous. The churros are always good. And the milkshakes were really really good (but it’s really hard to mess up a milkshake).

Thursday evening, we had Pizza from Naples e Ristorante in Downtown Disney and I must say, the Margherita pizza was the closest I’ve had since leaving NYC. It was delicious. There was also a Salt & Straw (ice cream shop that started in Portland!) nearby, too!

On Saturday evening, we ordered Cheesecake Factory from GrubHub and had it delivered to our rooms. Since we all had sore feet and blisters, that dinner delivery was seriously the best! Lettuce wraps and cheesecake? Don’t mind if I do!

Sunday morning we slept in, then headed back to the airport. It was a relatively quick trip, but I loved every second! 6 moms traveling together without kids makes for a really efficient trip. (We have 24 kids combined! Isn’t that bananas?) Overall, it was a ton of fun with a million memories made. Would highly recommend.

PS- we were able to meet Derek Hough on Saturday in California Adventure. It didn’t suck. Haha!
