More About our Utah House!

While I don’t have much to show you about the house we are building in Utah because they haven’t broken ground quite yet, Gordon and I were in Utah last month picking out all the finishes for our house which I am so excited to share!

So, here are the basics:

  • We are building a home with a smaller, reputable builder in Northern Utah, slightly out in the country which is exactly where we like to be.
  • We initially wanted a big lot and were contracted to be on a big lot, but after being out there and seeing how the house would have to sit on said lot, and looking at the price differences between that one and all the other ones, we opted to go across the street to a lot that is nearly 0.4 acres which is about triple the lot we have now.
  • Our house is slightly smaller than what we have here in Oregon, except it will come with an unfinished basement, which I guess makes it larger if you include that square footage. The finished square footage will be a little less than what we have. Does that make sense?
  • It’s a two story home that looks kind of like a farmhouse on the exterior, but we are picking colors and finishes that are anything but.
  • In true Lauren style, most of our money was spent in the kitchen, adding the best appliances and extending the island to be as large as possible. I am mostly excited about the kitchen.
  • Once they break ground, it should be a 165 day build. We’re just waiting for the county to approve the plans and then its all systems go 🙂 We are hopeful we will be moved in before school starts in August.

Here are a few photos we took in the design center and then a few others of already built homes with the same floor plan we chose to give you an idea of what it will look like. We are so excited!

home footprint on lot
This is the footprint of the house on the new lot we chose. We have a sidecar garage which I love love love! And we are on a corner tucked at the back of the subdivision which I also love. We specifically wanted a two story home so the overall footprint of the home would be smaller so we can maximize our backyard. Our home is also very symmetrical which I love.
chosen finishes
Here you can see our flooring, our cabinet colors at the top (white oak and a creamy white), the drawer pulls, the exterior home color (which is that navy color) with our quartz counters and backsplash color near the bottom.
chosen finishes
These are our master bath options. We ended up going with marble because I didn’t like any of the other options. Haha!
kitchen
Here is a general footprint of our kitchen we will build. Our island will be 1 foot longer and 2 feet wider. The colors for the cabinets will be the same. White oak for the island and a creamy white for the perimeter. We will have a column fridge and freezer on that back wall, with the freezer on the far left and the column fridge on the far right with a 36″ range cooktop centered in the middle. The wall ovens will be in the same spot and the microwave will be in our small butlers pantry. We will also have silver finished and black lighting. NO GOLD!
living room
A small snapshot of what our living room will look like. We chose a different mantle which we are in love with and of course I forgot to take photos of it. Our flooring is also not as warm as this flooring looks.
This pattern of penny tile is what we are using in our powder bath, except with grey grout because I’m not dumb enough to use white. SO many of you told me to do anything but white grout and I heard you loud and clear!
checkerboard tile
This patterned tile will be in my laundry room and Brooke’s bathroom.
interior front door
This is the front door we chose, but we will also have long skinny windows flanking the door.
master bath vanities
Here is the footprint of the master bathroom we will have. The tile on the floor will be actually in the shower and we will have rectangular tile on the floor.
This is the tub and filler we will have, but it won’t be on an angle.

I think it’s been good practice for you to have done so many house renovations over the years that you went in knowing exactly what you wanted. That is about the size lot we are on and it sounds like the boys will have plenty of room to run around. I do love when things are symmetrical, it is somehow calming.
