Family This Week at the Brennan's

This Week at the Brennans’

Gordon and the kids on the corner of a block

Brennan family outside

Have you ever have one of those weeks where you look back and it’s just a total blur? That’s me, like every week but this week was particularly bad. SO! We’ll see how this goes.

Here’s what happened this past week:

We got a rare opportunity to visit Gordon at work this week! He works in law enforcement doing private stuff that I don’t usually hear about, so when he said we could come visit for a hot minute on this one particular day we jumped at the chance. It was hella boring for the kids, but I was actually quite fascinated, when I could pay attention. Screaming Eddie does not make a first good impression, incase you were wondering.

On the way home, we walked by Times Square. Brooke has been there several times but my boys had never been. So we walked through looking up at all the lights and screens…mainly trying to avoid the naked painted ladies and the frightening man with the deep raspy voice in the elmo costume. (“wanna take a picture with elmo?” SKETCH) Interesting fact: did you know that Times Square has its own set of laws? Kind of like an ‘all bets are off’ sort of place…hence the naked ladies. The things you learn via your husband.

My kids had Wednesday off of school so we went out with some friends and did a little scavenger hunt in Central Park and finally FINALLY went to the central park carousel. I’ve been wanting to go here since we moved to the upper west side but have never had the chance slash my kids are whiners and I’d rather just take them to the nearest park than drag them there. But they were all smiles and all loved it! We rode twice.ย

I tested a ton of recipes this past week and man oh man do I love pumpkin. Still not sick of it. Still in love with it. Still have huge thighs because I can’t stop eating it. So so excited for what’s to come. BE EXCITED.

PS, recipe testing is so hard when you’re making dessert but still trying to eat healthy! Things have gone downhill real quick.

I’ve reached an all new low and ordered a ton of fall clothes off of amazon prime. I’ve been looking homeless for quite some time and never have the time to shop, so off I went onto the amazon app 11pm one night buying all the things with the swipe of my finger. I kind of have buyers remorse even though the clothes haven’t showed up yet, but I am still hopeful that everything will fit perfectly and suddenly I’ll have style. Totally plausible.

Gordon’s brother moved into the city! Family! Nearby! It’s a miracle! He came over for lunch on the weekend and brought his dog, Pony. We thought this was a good idea at the time (and it was!) but the aftermath has meant that Eddie is non-stop talking about “poh-ee”. Every other word is poh-ee. I’m hoping he will forget, but we’re three days in and it hasn’t happened yet.

Church was awesome and inspiring this week. I quite enjoy church anyways, but this week I came away feeling uplifted more than usual. I love it when that happens! Yay for that.

And finally, we were able to sneak away to the park one early morning, all five of us! We love going to the park together to play soccer or frisbee or just scooter around the park. All of these photos in this post are from that morning ๐Ÿ™‚ I took turns running beside each kid as they scootered as we did laps around the great lawn. Eddie did so so great with his scooter and we got lots of smiles and comments. He really does do well and he LOVES to ride his scooter. If only he was more consistent with his brake.

Brooke practiced throwing a football with her dad for a good 30 minutes and it turns out practice DOES make perfect because she can throw it in a near perfect spiral! Blake is also quite good with his football skills (throwing and catching) but he gets bored easily so he kept going back and forth between sports. Typical for Blake though.

Here’s what is coming up this next week:

My niece is coming into town on Wednesday to watch my kiddos because I’m going out of town on Thursday!! I’m meeting up with some old Oregon friends in Las Vegas! I haven’t seen then in over two years. I’m so excited. If you have any Las Vegas recommendations for me let me know!

I’m also speaking at TechMunch Conference this week before I leave as well about blogging as a business, so if you’re in town, be sure to check it out ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for now! Have a great day, friends!

I’ve just recently subscribed, but have already made two of your dishes, and I was told to put them in The Family Recipe Book, because they were both definite keepers! You have a lovely family! Have fun in Las Vegas ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gorgeous photos! Central Park is amazing.
But, Amazon clothes shopping?! You aren’t far from Century 21 and that’s such a fun adventure! You never know what you’re going to find. Although they aren’t open at 11pm… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Grab a sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich in Miracle Mile – I highly, highly recommend the holiday turkey one! Worth every single calorie!

We went to see O (the Cirque Show) on our first (and only, so far) trip to Vegas and it was AMAZING!
Also BLVD Creamery has delicious ice cream and cookies to make dinner replacing ice cream sandwiches ๐Ÿ™‚
If you are looking to get out of town for a scenic drive, Mount Charleston is perfect and even has a restaurant at roads end.
My husband and I were up early every morning and ran a six mile route out and back on the strip from our hotel and that was a fun way to see a quieter version of Vegas.
    Have fun!!
