This Week at the Brennan’s

Another fun and busy week in the books!

Here’s what happened this week:

I finished all my editing and word documents for my Christmas Digital Magazine that will be ready for your eyeballs December 1! This will be a downloadable file that you would store on your computer, phone or tablet and is available for anyone living anywhere to purchase and download immediately! I’ve been working on this project since August, testing recipes and such so to get to November and have it done…I’m so thrilled with how it has turned out. 17 all new recipes that will never get posted to the blog are included with lots of cute family photos too 🙂

Earlier in the week, I was able to attend Brooke’s 3rd grade culture celebration/ “publishing party” where they shared their new books they’ve written. Brooke did so well, and her book was hilarious as per usual, but of course I’m biased. I also had Brooke and Blake’s parent teacher conferences this past Thursday and both kids are doing well. Brooke just flies right through every grade, getting amazing reviews from every teacher. Blake’s was a little different. Apparently, he gets frustrated when he is asked to cut along certain lines or cut out paper shapes, yet when asked “what is your favorite activity at school” he says “cutting”. How’s that for confusing? So he has a little homework to practice his cutting. Haha!

I have Blake a hair cut on Tuesday (I think it was Tuesday) and it took about 30 minutes because he kept squirming and screaming. Pretty sure the neighbors think I’m a terrible mother, based on how frequently that boy screams at the top of his lungs. When neighbors see us coming or going, they get out of our way. Haha! Probably a smart move on their part.

Gordon has been home this past week because his training is done and he’s actually working. It is weird and wonderful and I’m still getting used to it. He does a lot of shift work now with a few ‘normal’ 9-5 days at the office dabbled in between. Everyday he’s doing something different and he LOVES what he’s doing. Brooke HATES the shift work part because it’s always different and she hates change. But, I think we’re going to get her a calendar so we can write out Gordon’s schedule so she can know 1-2 weeks ahead of time when she’ll be seeing her Daddy. The boys just go with the flow and could care less. Haha!

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary this week!! Gordon and I have been married ten whole years to each other and we didn’t do a whole lot to celebrate. He came home from the office, fed the kids, got them in bed, ordered Thai food and went to bed early. Kids and jobs are tiring, ya’ll. In March we’ll be taking a vacation, just the two of us to Aruba! My kids are not excited about us leaving for 6 days but I DON’T CARE. It’s been nearly 5 years since we took a trip just the two of us, so I’m going to savor every moment. Basically, I’m going to sleep the entire time.

And finally, we have all succumbed to illness except for Gordon because he’s freaking superman and immune to all. Brooke has a cold (coughing, sneezing, runny nose) Blake has a cough and Eddie is just all around cranky (I think it’s teething). We were going to all get flu shots this week, but I don’t think we’ll be able to. Oh wise readers, can we get the flu shot when we’re sick?

Here’s what’s coming up this week:

THANKSGIVING! I’ve been putting off creating a menu because I just don’t feel like cooking a whole meal for just the 5 of us, especially since I’m not sure if Gordon will end up being here. So, I’m being a rebel and baking a spiral ham because it’s so darn easy and we all love ham. So, I’m doing ham, funeral potatoes, a simple green salad and pumpkin pie, though my husband is pushing for chocolate. We’ll see if I have time for that. (See my roundup of thanksgiving recipes here if you’re still looking!)

Only three days of school for my kiddos 🙂 They’re thrilled.

I’m debating whether or not to go to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade because we live here now and because we can. But it would most definitely be just me and the kids. Do I dare do that to myself?

I switched my hair appointment from last week to this week because something came up, and now I have to switch my appointment AGAIN! My liiiiiife is so busy. Anyone want to come and watch my kids so I can get a hair cut? Anyone? Anyone?

Go the parade! If not this year, at least sometime. It is so much fun. I went with family friends and my parents one year and we stayed right in Times Square so we literally just had to walk out of our hotel room.

There are also areas where you can watch them blow up the balloons the night before:

If you don’t want to deal with the parade crowds/cold weather, you can always go the day before and watch them blowing up the balloons. They do it right by the museum of natural history on the UWS and it’s so fun!

Love your weekly updates! When reading of Blake’s haircut it took me back to the times when I cut our sons hair. Being from a small town in Iowa, I would pretend to be the barber, lowering my voice, have our son sit in the highchair, put the cape on and go into the pretend world as if he was a farmer asking how the crops were going and what not, he totally got into that and made lots of memories! Can’t wait to hear if you went to the parade!

Yes you can get a flu shot if you’re sick, just as long as you don’t have a fever.

My son got a flu shot when he had a bad cold. He had a borderline fever, but the doctor said he was still good to go.

I would totally go to the Thanksgiving Day Parade!! But with 3 kids, I would want to know about the bathroom situation. But jammies, cinnamon rolls and watching on TV sounds extremely nice too!

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon. The Macy’s thanksgiving day parade sounds like it would be fun but chaotic to go too. Plus it’s gonna be cold. Good luck if you go and wishing you and the family a happy thanksgiving!
