Brennan Family

What a crazy, amazing week! BIG BIG things happened!

Here’s what happened this week:

Well, our week started off as any other week, with my husband leaving Sunday night and my in-laws hanging out at our apartment. Kids went to school, I got some work done, etc. etc.

Then on Tuesday, my kids had the day off school so we drove to DC to visit Gordon early because!! He officially finished and graduated his training on Wednesday morning!! It’s been a long 8 months, people. And we’re finally done! Yes, I’m so proud of Gordon and so glad he made it to the end of this training because it was hard, but hot damn, I’m so proud of myself too. Proud that I moved me and my three kids across the country by myself and lived to tell the tale. If you read through my other weekly recaps from May and June, you’ll see just how insane those weeks were to handle alone. (This one was the worst week of my life.)

So, at Gordon’s graduation, he gave a lovely speech (because he was voted in as class president (of course he was) and was required to give a speech) and was recognized with some awesome achievements he had made over the past 235 days. Yes I counted the days, why do you ask?

I’d like to know where my certificates and medals of achievement are. Who’s hand do I get to shake? I’d like a trip to Aruba with a big fat diamond ring. Just saying.

And, because I know you all are going to ask, I can’t tell you what my husband’s job is specifically, but, I can tell you it’s a more specialized job in law enforcement.

My parents came to DC for this blessed event, as did my in-laws and Gordon’s aunt and uncle all the way from California! (Hi Dave & Donna!) We all had a fun time together, even though it was for a quick trip.

So, the ceremony happened Wednesday morning and by Wednesday afternoon, Gordon me and the kids were on our way home all together!!! Us driving back to New York was the moment I had been dreaming about since March. And to have it happen was a serious dream come true. I was a happy girl on Wednesday!! The icing on the cake was us hitting up Target and Chick-fil-A in Jersey!! Haha!! I love a good waffle fry 🙂

Thursday, the kids were back at school and on Friday, SURPRISE!! I took Brooke for a quick mother-daughter trip to Disney World in Orlando! We got the opportunity to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Friday Night and it was amazing! So so magical. (More on that later this week.)

We got back late Saturday night and now it’s already Sunday and we are ready to get back into a new daily routine with us dropping off the kids, Gordon going to work, and we being home with Eddie. It was a bit of a whirlwind, but ohhh maaan does it feel good to be home with a husband again. Blake especially loves spending time with his Daddy!

Oh, and Gordon was able to take the boys to see the Rockefellar Christmas tree come in by truck Saturday morning too! Christmas in the city is HAPPENING! We are so excited 🙂

Lauren and Brooke

Coming up this week:

I am putting the finishing touches on my Holiday Digital Magazine!! 17 all new recipes, not available on the blog with lots of family photos and other content that I just know you will love! Available on December 1st! Mark your calendars 🙂

Brooke has a classroom “culture” party on Tuesday and I volunteered to bring a snack from our culture (a homemade pastry that my Mom has been making every Christmas that takes 2 days to make.) WHYYYY did I volunteer to bring this? Ahh!!

Speaking of Brooke, she also has Parent Teacher Conferences and a field trip to MoMA! Perks of living in NYC!

The kids get Friday off this week because of those Parent Teacher conferences and I am finally getting my hair cut and colored.

OH!! And I nearly forgot! Gordon and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary on Wednesday! WE MADE IT.

I understand totally about missing the husband and all… Mine is gone Mon-Fri and stays in another town for work and comes home for the weekends and most holidays and this has been going on for a year.. I am at my wits end.. I am a stay at home mom to 4 but have 5 minions all together and reading your posts allow me to laugh .. We are tough cookies and our kids know this… I will settle a “vacation” trip with the hubby (he is currently in Singapore).. I’m sure Mr. Clause has you on the nice list… Thanks for letting us read all about the craziness and pics of the adorable family… Keep the recipes coming… xoxo

A big congrats to you! I’ve been following your blog for years and your last year has been really tough. YOU do deserve to give a speech, and shake hands, and a trip with jewelry is pretty much a given! Great accomplishments all around to your family.

Watching you pack up and move and introduce yourself and your kiddos to a new city (mostly) alone has been such a cool thing to watch. I’m so happy for you guys to enter a new season altogether now! Congrats to your husband on his amazing achievement!!

It’s amazing what we can do when we have to! We become independent and go out of our comfort zone when our husbands are off trying to make life a bit easier for us in the long run! I look at all the things I did because I had to and I’m a better wife and mother for it !
Congratulations to the whole family 🎉👏🏻🙏🏻💕

I have been following your blog for about 5 years and I stand amazed at the changes your family has gone through in that time. I respect and admire the sacrifices you have made in order for Gordon to make his dream a reality. The importance you place on God, faith, and family encourages me. I also appreciate your “realness” and honesty about the struggles in your life with humor and sarcasm. You make me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. Blessings to you and your family!
