Brennan family sitting at the table

Oh, mama! Another busy week in the books!

Here’s what happened this week:

Welllllllll, I started my week saying goodbye to Gordon and saying hello to two dear friends who came to visit me! I convinced them to come to NYC to help me with a few big photo and recipe shoots for a holiday e-magazine I’m putting together for you all! We were cooking, cleaning and decorating up a storm while taking as many little sight seeing breaks as possible amongst the madness.

This week was crazy, decorating for Christmas, shooting 17 (!!!) recipes, keeping three kids alive, etc.. But a big chunk of the work is done and over with and I can’t wait to put it all together so you all can have this resource in your kitchen to keep you sane during the holidays! Sanity seems to be my number one priority. Always.

Behind the scenes at my house during the Christmas shoot this week!

With these pictures, you can get a few behind the scenes and get a better idea of what my apartment looks like. One of these days I’m going to have to just snap some photos to share of what 5 people in 900 square feet looks like. Most of the time, it ain’t pretty!! Haha!

Gordon was home this weekend and he was such an all star, taking the kids so I could work and then hang out with my girlfriends. I forgot what its like to have really good friends living close to me. It has been so tiring, but a breath of fresh air having them here. They make my life better and I’m so appreciative of them.

Brooke has been doing ok this week with the no dairy, but the no gluten is not so fun. On the bright side, no sore tummy!! So, I know its one of those two things causing her stomach troubles now, so in a few more weeks, we’ll integrate one of those items back into her diet to see which is the culprit.

Blake also is doing great at soccer and looks so darn cute in his very yellow uniform. I think his team is called the bumblebees. It’s so fun seeing teeny little 4 year olds play soccer against each other.

Lauren with friends

My friends to came to help me!! They make it look like I have my life together. Karisa and Claudia!! Literally the best people everrrr.

Gordon and I have also decided to sell our van. We’re paying a TON to keep it stored in a garage nearby and we hardly use it. So, now we’ll just pay a small monthly fee for some basement storage in our building for our car seats and rent a vehicle as needed. So much cheaper!

Our new nanny started this week and we all love her! She is doing such a wonderful job and has won all three of my kids over with her charm, kindness and paints that she brought. She will only be here two days a week.

New York City has been humid and HOT this past week. It’s almost October and it still feels like summer! What.the.heck. I want sweater weather please ๐Ÿ™‚

Eddie had a speech evaluation earlier in the week through Early Intervention because he literally says one word. The pediatrician recommended that we do it earlier than later to get a head start just incase. Turns out, Eddie is quite the little flirt!! He loved the speech therapist! Haha! Anyways, she thinks because he cognitively understands everything and follows through with “commands” that he’s just a little delayed and won’t receive services through this governmental program which in the end is a good thing. But, she still recommended I take him to a pediatric ENT based on how poorly he sleeps and the number of ear infections he’s had in his little life. So I will be taking him to this specialist in about two weeks. I’m so fascinated to see what they say!

Some of the recipes you’ll see in this holiday e-magazine available December 1st! All brand new!!

Here’s what’s coming up this week:

My friends are leaving to go back to reality. Nooooo!

My husband is down to 6 weeks of training left before he is home for good, working out of NYC!! Can’t wait for him to say goodbye to DC!

My kids have school all week ๐Ÿ™‚

I have quite a few recipes to test out this week which I’m excited for…mostly gluten free ones!

Eddie has an appointment with the pediatric ENT, so I’m fascinated to figure out what’s going on with that.

I wonder if the ENT will want to take out Eddie’s tonsils. That can be the culprit for lots of ear infections and a speech delay. Hope you get answers soon. A baby that doesn’t sleep good=the worst!!!

Your โ€˜This week at the Brennanโ€™sโ€™ posts are some of my favourites. I love how you make a point of taking joy from the day to day. Even amongst the chaos and stress of moving to a completely different city with your husband out of town, you can still appreciate the little things like a Friends episode or a haircut!

Iโ€™ve struggled with leaving my comfort zone in the past. Moving to the other side of the world was not easy for me, and looking back I wish I had more of your mindset. Instead of taking advantage of the new experience and making the most of it, I was negative about it for quite a while. Now with another major move coming up to another different city, Iโ€™m hopeful that your blog will help me to see the positive and make the most of the experience.

Your family makes me smile! Keep being you!

I enjoy seeing pictures of your apartment in NY. I like to hear how you’ve adjusted to down-sizing in space and also hear updates about Eddie’s speech. I enjoy your family sections the most because my husband is more the “cook” of the family! ๐Ÿ™‚
