Statue of Liberty

Oh haaaay Lady Liberty!

Earlier in the week, we went to see the Statue of Liberty! My kids have been wanting to do this for a while (Blake mostly wanted to just go on a boat, Brooke was excited to explore the island.) So off we went to feast our eyes on this green copper beauty.

It was quite busy when we went and there were a lot of international visitors that I wasn’t expecting (how I forget that New York is *always* filled with tourists, I’ll never know…) but we were able to easily make our way around the pathway to view the front of the statue and then back to where we began again.

Eddie loved NOT being in his stroller, so once we let him loose, he was walking all over and making friends with strangers. Again, more asian people came up to us and in their broken english commented on his curly hair and big blue eyes. Haha! Yes, he’s adorable 😉

We got him to raise his arm like the Statue of Liberty and he sort of ran with it for a good 30 minutes because we kept laughing every time he lifted his arm!

Walking back to the boat 🙂 One of these days, I’m going to get a pedometer and see just how many steps I take in New York each day! Brooke wants one too! Haha!

We booked tickets for the Statue of Liberty through Statue Cruises. Last October when I was in New York, I saw the Statue of Liberty using the Staten Island Ferry which is free and very quick (about an hour there and back, if you’re fast). I mentioned that to my husband, but my kids overheard and they wanted to go to the actual island. Darn kids! So I sucked it up and purchased the tickets just to go to the island and back. It also includes a trip to Ellis Island, but we didn’t do that, though I would like to go back and listen to the history of it all. You can get tickets to go up onto the pedestal or even into the crown, but those are extra.

In total, it took us about 3 1/2 hours all together taking our time. That includes getting a few drinks and lingering in the gift shop. You have the option of getting these little speaker boxes to speak to you about the history of Lady Liberty, and we tried to listen, but beyond 15 seconds our kids were GONE. Again, we’d like to go back without those rascals to learn.

Because the movers are still not here with our stuff, I just gave in and got this single stroller for Eddie. (We have a double stroller in the truck!!) I really really like it! It’s skinny and I don’t have to worry about it NOT fitting through a doorway. It’s also light enough to bring up and down the stairs in the subway, even though I’d rather not take the subway alone with all three kids. And, as long as there is a kid buckled in, I can load on the groceries! #winning

The backpack I’m wearing has been a lifesaver! I thought about the purse/diaper bag I have and it just would fall off my shoulder which is super annoying and not practical for me. So, I got this bag and I LOVE IT. I found it and purchased it in Canada when I was visiting my parents and it is the cutest, most perfect sized backpack for everything I need! And I did not buy it when it was on sale like it is here. You’re welcome.

My black demin jeans are my very favorites that I keep bombarding you about (really good if you large larger thighs and a small waist, like me!) These flip flops I’ve had for YEARS (yeah, Target!) and I just got this t-shirt recently (in abstract blue), also from Target.
