Hi friends! Happy Tuesday!
I finally had a free afternoon last week to clean the main parts of our apartment well enough to take pictures to share on the blog! I wanted to make sure I snapped some before all the Christmas decor went up. Plus, its always good to have a reason to clean, right? (Speaking of Christmas, check out my 2017 Christmas Magazine that you can get and download instantly.)
A few details about our apartment:
- It’s a newly renovated apartment in a very old building. We are the first ones to live in it since its renovation.
- We have 11 foot ceilings which is one of the reasons we love this place so much! Yes its small, but with the windows and the ceiling height, its not so bad.
- We are living in about 950 square feet. It’s snug!
- It’s a two bedroom-two bath apartment, with a washer and dryer which I required! As you can see, we don’t have a ton of storage, so we ended up getting a storage unit in the basement of our building. Yes, its an extra $100 a month, but it means our apartment can remain somewhat clutter-free.
- My friends came to visit me while we were shooting my Holiday Magazine and they helped me immensely with the furniture placement, decor and organization. Food is my strong suit and thats about it. I’m not that creative when it comes to decorating. So, super thankful for friends!!
- You can see throughout these photos, the kitchen and living space are together in one big room. Our bedroom is the one marked ‘private’ to the right of the couch. The kids’ bedroom is to the left. I’ll take pictures of these rooms at another time. I’m still looking for some pictures frames to finish the space.
- As you scroll, I’ll have a few notes about everything, but the big list of items will be at the bottom, as per usual.

Right when you walk in the door, you will see our coat closet (with the big B on it), a dresser, and the rest of the kitchen and living space as you look to the right.

This is the full view, basically. Yes, I know its small!

Here is our kitchen. I purposely bought a rough table because and ding or mark can’t be seen. It’s all part of the illusion. “The table is supposed to be like that!”

This little corner with the blender is my favorite part of the kitchen.

This is a little space between the living and dining areas. Our bedroom is behind that private sign.

We’ve had these photos for years!! We switch out the photos occasionally, but I like the ones I’ve picked out. (They’re just prints from our trips to Newport, OR and Miami, FL back in the day when my husband had hair. Sigh.)

The doorway to the right in this photo is the kids room, and the door to the left with the wreath and sign is the kids’ bathroom.

Here’s a shot taken by the dishwasher, facing the entryway. The doorway on the left is the stacked washer and dryer.

And we’re back at the front door! We keep our keys dangling right above the handle so we never forget our keys. We need them to get into our 24/7 locked building and then our 24/7 locked apartment. You can’t ever unlock our door. It’s just always locked. I like it, but it did take some getting used to NEVER forget your keys.
Here are a few helpful links to several of the items in our apartment:
(some affiliate links below)
Letter on the door, originally from Hobby Lobby years ago! Similar one here.
Reclaimed Wood Table and Rug under the table from West Elm. The rug sheds a lot (contrary to what the guy at the store told me!! Doofas!) so instead of having this in the living area like I had planned, we moved it to under the table and it seems to be shedding less because its getting less traffic across it.
White chairs from Wayfair. (I think they’re cheaper at Amazon now!)
Entry dresser/table from IKEA.
Green boxwood wreaths from Kohl’s.
Eddie’s high chair from Target.
Greenery plants from Ikea.
Clock from Ikea.
White Picture frames from IKEA.
Basket for blankets from Target.
Letter Board from Letterfolk.
Couch Pillows from Minted.

December 7, 2017 at 5:47 pmHey Lauren! Your place looks so nice and classily decorated! I’m sure the change in size took some serious getting used to! I’ve never lived in a tiny space but I think the one part I’d like is being forced to GET RID OF STUFF:)

December 11, 2017 at 1:57 pmI miss city living!!! I lived in Boston for 9 years and always fantasized about having a family in the city but ultimately wanted to raise my kids down the street from my sisters and their kids and our mom. But man – I LOVE that you are doing this!! I”m living vicariously. 🙂

February 3, 2018 at 1:19 pmThank heaven for creative storage ideas! How you are raising 3 kids in something so small is amazing. Where are the toys? Where do you go when you just need quiet time? Life is an adventure and this form of living small is just one chapter in that adventure. Some day you will look back on it with fond memories.

February 4, 2018 at 6:54 pmI really like that table! I’m in SoCal and we are moving to Portland Oregon soon. It;s just the two of us, but the problem is we are use to a 3000 sqft house which is not common in Portland. I’m all for less stuff and your apartment is fab!! I hope one day we can downsize as smaller places can have so much character. Less is more.

February 13, 2018 at 8:03 amI am so impressed with how much you have done with so little space. You are so very brave to make the move to NYC by yourself. So glad Gordon is back with you. Your little family seems so happy together! I have tried so many of your recipes and have discovered a lot of new favorites, especially those for the crock pot. Look forward to your posts every week. I feel like you’ve become a friend!
