A few weeks ago, Gordon and I completely finished Brooke’s room. It was a pretty plain boring beige room to begin with, so we wanted to do something cute, classic and something that wouldn’t have to be changed 2 years down the road.
Before doing any work, we knew the following:
-we had to get her a bigger bed
-I wanted taller wainscoting throughout the entire room
-I wanted crown molding throughout the entire room
-we needed to add some sort of shelving into the closet since there was none
Pretty basic list, right? Well, it took my husband a lot {and I mean A LOT} of convincing to agree to put up all this wainscoting and crown molding! Now that the room is completely done though, he loves it as much as Brooke and I do…just as I suspected.
When you first walk into the room, you see her new ‘big girl’ bed. Most of the stuff in Brooke’s room is from Target or Ikea—meaning we had a budget.
Her bed frame and duvet cover is from Ikea. We splurged on her mattress because that’s something we want to last. Her sheets are t-shirt sheets from Target {and are the softest things ever!} Throw pillows are from Target. Colorful rug is also from Ikea.
Her nightstand I found on clearance at Target. It’s technically a coffee table, but doubles as a prison for her stuffed animals! Her lamp is one we’ve had since Gord and I were married. I just got a new shade.
This little piggy bank is something Brooke begged and begged me for! It’s from Target. Doggy’s headband not included. LOL!
To the left of her bed is a little work area. We bought this little table a while ago from Fred Meyer…probably around the time she was 2. I love all the large windows in our house!
She makes good use of her table. She’s always here at one time or another every day.
Moving around the room counter clockwise you will find these shelves. Another piece of Ikea furniture we’ve had for a long time. Probably almost 3 years we’ve had this one. The art on the wainscoting is from Ikea. The other art below is by a family friend and my sister.
Here’s a close-up of the art my sister did. I initially saw these painters at Disneyland of all places making these adorable name signs out of the different Disney princesses a few months ago. I was in love with them, but didn’t exactly want to pay $50 for one. So, I snapped a few photos and sent them to my sister to see if she could re-create something similar. Of course she’s good at every.single.thing she does, so it turned out amazing! I love it 🙂
Now about the closet—> I ended up buying the Rubbermaid 3-6 ft. customizable closet system. I didn’t want to splurge on a more expensive one because we’re splurging in other areas of the house. Plus, I love that we can rearrange these around as she grows. Right now all the clothing that fits her is in her reach. I’m all about making her as independent as possible once her little brother shows up, so this closet system is working great for us.
Here’s the other side. She LOVES dresses, can you tell? LOL!
So, there you have it! Brooke’s room 🙂 It’s small, but seems to be the perfect size for our growing little girl.
Stay tuned….my husband will be doing a wainscoting tutorial on his blog so you can recreate this look. In the meantime, check out his initial post about Brooke’s room.

April 13, 2013 at 8:26 pmI think Brooke will love this room for a very long time. The wainscotting is gorgeous, so is the crown molding. Well worth the effort 🙂
We have the same closet system in the kids room and it is wonderful. I have already changed it and rearranged it so many times, just depending on what type of clothes she has in the current season. And, when we needed extra storage, it was easy to add!
Love this room-

April 14, 2013 at 5:35 amThis room is as cute as she is! I think it fits personality (which i love seeing in your bolg constantly), to the ‘t’! I may have to go copy cat the bulldog piggy bank because I love everything bulldogg (since I have one) and just need that!
Great job you two!

April 17, 2013 at 6:03 amLove it! I have a similar ikea storage bin for the kids and it’s such a live saver. Does the bed frame work with regular sized mattresses? I’ve always wondered that about ikea bed frames.

July 18, 2014 at 4:32 amGreat room design~especially the storage area. Would you mind sharing the brand name of the white table and chairs? They’re exactly what I have in mind as a birthday gift for my granddaughter.
Thanks so much~
